Baseball Wins Third Straight, 12-11 over Ursinus

Sophomore Ryan Blacker had two hits and three RBI's in the win over Ursinus.

Collegeville, PA (April 23, 2008) – The DeSales University baseball team continued to put runs on the board, plating 12 on Wednesday afternoon to top Ursinus College, 12-11, in a come from behind win in non-conference action.
 
        The win is the third straight for the Bulldogs who improve to 18-17-1 overall, while the Bears fall to 16-14 overall with the loss. After falling behind 4-0 in the bottom of the first inning, the Bulldogs responded with six runs in the top of the second inning to take a 6-4 lead. Sophomores Michael Jordan (Green Lane, PA/Souderton), Derek Moyer (Harleysville, PA/Souderton), and Ryan Blacker (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) along with senior Scott Matejicka (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) each had RBI's in the second frame.
 
        After plating one run in the top of the third to take a 7-4 lead, Ursinus rallied for five straight runs including one in the third, three in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 9-7 lead. The Bulldogs were up to the task once again however scoring three times in the sixth to take the lead for good, 9-8. Junior Matt Connors (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) had an RBI single and Blacker plated two runs with a single.
 
        DSU added some insurance in the top of the seventh when DSU scored two unearned runs and junior Joe Walsh (Green Brook, NJ/Watchung Hills) did the rest working the ninth inning to earn his seventh save of the season. Sophomore Luke Freshwater (Mt. Vernon, OH/Mt. Vernon) earned the win pitching three innings of relief scattering five hits and allowing two runs.
 
        Blacker and Moyer each had three RBI's in the win, while Connors knocked in two runs. Jordan finished the game 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Matejicka belted his 13th double of the season to break the all-time record for doubles at DeSales with 54. DSU stole nine bases in the win including two by freshman Tim Fiorito (Mesa, AZ/Seton Catholic), freshman Carson Slonaker (East Greenville, PA/Perkiomen School) and junior Greg Treat (Concord, NH/Concord).

        DSU returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Wilkes University for the first game of a very important three-game series this weekend with the Colonels. First pitch is set for 3:30 pm on Friday.
