BOX SCORE

Purchase, NY (April 23, 2008) – The DeSales University men's lacrosse team used a big fourth quarter, scoring five goals to erase a 4-3 deficit and record an 8-6 win over Manhattanville College in an MAC Conference game on Wednesday afternoon.

After opening up a 3-1 lead in the first half, MVille scored three straight goals including the only two of the third period to take a 4-3 lead. The lead continued to be one until the 11:40 mark when freshman Donald Clemens (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) scored unassisted to tie the score at four. Just 33 seconds later the Bulldogs (7-8, 2-4) freshman Drew Artin (Yardley, PA/Notre Dame) gave DSU a 5-4 lead on a feed from senior Sam Gobeli (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley).

Both teams were scoreless for almost six minutes before the Bulldogs took control as junior Matthew Brancaccio (Greenvaley, NY/North Shore) scored unassisted to put the visitors up 6-4 and sophomore Matthew Kruszewski (Atco, NJ/Winslow Township) followed with a goal 1:53 later on a feed from Brancaccio to put DSU up 7-4.

The Valiants (8-6, 1-5 MAC) finally broke DSU's string of consecutive goals with a goal but the Bulldogs countered as senior Dan Thomer (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) scored unassisted to give DSU an 8-5 lead an ultimately the win, its second in the MAC Conference this season.

Brancaccio, Thomer and Krusxzewski each finished with two goals, while Artin and Clemens tallied the other two. Brancaccio added three assists and Gobeli also had a helper in the win. Sophomore Jarryd Stamatelos (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) was terrific in goal making a season-high 15 saves, while Clemens, Gobeli and junior Craig Rogers (Havertown, PA/Haverford) each had four ground balls in the win.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday when they host Messiah College in the final game of the season at 1:00 pm.
