Center Valley, PA (April 5, 2008) – The DeSales University men's lacrosse team scored three first period goals to take a 3-2 lead after one quarter but it was not enough as FDU-Florham scored seven straight goals to hand the Bulldogs their fourth straight loss, 10-4, on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (4-6, 0-2 MAC) scored the first goal of the game and continued to hold a one-goal lead as the second quarter started but the Devils (2-5, 2-0 MAC) took control from there blanking DSU in the second and third quarters and scoring seven straight goals in the middle periods and start of the fourth to take a 9-3 lead and eventually the six-goal victory.
DSU took just three shots in the second and third quarters as compared to 15 for the Devils. FDU-Florham enjoyed a 35-29 edge in ground balls and won 10-of-18 face-offs on the afternoon. Both goalkeepers, freshman Justin Campanelli (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) for the Bulldogs and Evan Mager for the Devils, had seven saves.
Senior Jay Young (Pittstown, NJ/North Hunterdon) had two of the four goals for DeSales and fellow seniors Dan Thomer (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) and Sam Gobeli (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) each scored once. Junior Matthew Brancaccio (Greenvale, NY/North Shore) and freshman Whit Bruemmer (Richboro, PA/Council Rock South) each added an assist on the offensive end.
Thomer led the way with five ground balls, freshman Donald Clemens (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) had four pick-ups and Gobeli led the way with seven face-off wins in 14 attempts.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Monday, April 7th when they travel to Alvernia College for a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
