Brancaccio’s 10 Points lead DeSales past Alvernia, 17-9

Reading, PA (April 7, 2008) – Junior Matthew Brancaccio (Greenvale, NY/North Shore) had a season-high 10 points and tied the single-game record for assists in a game with seven leading the DeSales University men's lacrosse team past Alvernia College, 17-9, snapping a four game losing skid on Monday afternoon in a non-conference game.
 
        The Bulldogs improve to 5-6 overall with the win, while Alvernia falls to 1-7 with the loss. DSU scored the first eight goals of the game and never really looked back from there in snapping its four-game losing streak. DeSales enjoyed a 37-23 edge in shots, while the Crusaders had a 15-12 edge in face-offs and both teams picked up 41 ground balls.
 
        Brancaccio finished with three goals and seven assists to tie Brian Kuttler for the most assists in a game at DeSales. Kuttler achieved the feat twice in his career. Freshman Whit Bruemmer (Richboro, PA/Council Rock South) and senior Jay Young (Pittstown, NJ/North Hunterdon) each had three goals and sophomore Matthew Kruszewski (Atco, NJ/Winslow Township) had two goals to round out the scoring leaders.
 
        Also scoring for the Bulldogs were freshman Donald Clemens (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin), senior Dan Thomer (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan), freshman Tim Donnelly (Pittsburgh, PA/Central Catholic), junior Andrew Ervin (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy), freshman Drew Artin (Yardley, PA/Notre Dame – NJ) and sophomore Jarryd Stamatelos (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) with one goal each.
 
        Bruemmer, Thomer, Clemens, Kruszewski and senior John Tosco (Hampton, NJ/Voorhees) each had one assist in the win. Freshman Justin Campanelli (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) had seven saves in goal, while Stamatelos added four stops and freshman Anthony Dunn (Broomall, PA/Monsignor Bonner) had two saves. Clemens led the way with eight ground balls and senior Sam Gobeli (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) had four pick-ups and eight face-off wins.

        DSU returns to action on Wednesday when they return to MAC Conference action, traveling to Elizabethtown College for a game scheduled to begin at 4:00 pm.
