BOX SCORE

Center Valley, PA, (August 29, 2008) – In her first collegiate match, freshman Christine Petrilla (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton-Steinert-Hamilton East), came through in the clutch as she closed out a tie match with a singles win over Lindsey Ravior at the #4 flight to lead the DeSales University women's tennis team past Neumann College, 5-4, in the first match of the season for both teams.

The Bulldogs (1-0 overall) trailed, 2-1, following the three doubles matches as the match had to be moved indoors as rain started to fall near the end of the doubles action. DSU needed to win four of the six singles matches to earn a win and it did just that as the top four singles players earned wins to give DeSales its first win of the season.

Sophomores Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) and Jess Smith (Abbottstown, PA/Delone Catholic) teamed to earn the lone doubles point with an 8-0 win at the No. 1 singles position and each turned in solid performances in singles as Steiner was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over Allison Trout at the No. 1 position and Smith earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Alice DeTolla at the No 2 flight.

Sophomore MaryKate Boylan (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks South) tied the match at four with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Courtney Hartel in the No. 3 flight setting up Petrilla to close out the match at the No. four position.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday, September 3rd when they host Messiah College in a non-conference match beginning at 4:00 pm.
