Bulldogs Drop First Match of the Year, 7-2 at Moravian

Sophomore Jess Smith earned the lone win in singles in the loss to Moravian on Wednesday.

Bethlehem, PA, (September 17, 2008) – The DeSales University women's tennis team fell for the first time all season, dropping a 7-2 decision to local rival Moravian College in a non-conference match on Wednesday afternoon.

DSU took one of three doubles matches to fall behind 2-1 early and were only able to win one of six singles matches in the loss. Sophomore MaryKate Boylan (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks South) and freshman Christine Petrilla (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert-Hamilton East) teamed to earn a hard-fought 9-7 win at the No. 2 doubles spot and sophomore Jess Smith (Abbottstown, PA/Delone Catholic) earned the lone singles win, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) over Dyana Swan at the No. 2 singles position.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday, September 20th when they host Misericordia University in a Freedom Conference match beginning at 1:00 pm.
