Bulldogs Drop Third Straight, 5-4 to Ursinus

Freshman Christine Petrilla earned her fifth singles win of the year in the loss to Ursinus on Monday.

Center Valley, PA, (September 22, 2008) – The DeSales University women's tennis team suffered its second straight defeat falling just short to Ursinus College, 5-4, in a non-conference match on Monday afternoon.

The Bulldogs fell behind early dropping two of three doubles matches and split the six singles matches to drop the match by just one point. In doubles action, sophomores Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) and Jess Smith (Abbottstown, PA/Delone Catholic) continued their winning ways recording an 8-3 win.

Steiner also earned a win at the No. 1 singles spot, defeating Julia Kurtz, 6-1, 6-0 and Smith was just as impressive recording a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 2 spot over Pam Odorizzi. Freshman Christine Petrilla (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert-Hamilton East) earned the final point for the Bulldogs with a hard-fought 6-4, 6-1 win at the No. 4 spot.

DSU returns to action on Thursday, September 25^th when they travel to Manhattanville College for a Freedom Conference match beginning at 3:30 pm.
