Women’s Tennis Scores 8-1 Win over Manhattanville

Sophomore Jess Smith was a double winner in singles and doubles on Thurdsay in the win over Manhattanville.

Purchase, NY (September 25, 2008) – The DeSales University women's tennis team earned its fifth win of the season with a convincing 8-1 win over Manhattanville College in a Freedom Conference match on Thursday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (5-3, 2-1 Freedom) took all three doubles matches and swept five of the six singles matches in the win.

In doubles action sophomores Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) and Jess Smith (Abbottstown, PA/Delone Catholic) teamed up at the No. 1 position for an 8-4 win. Sophomore MaryKate Boylan (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks South) teamed with freshman Christine Petrilla (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert-Hamilton East) to win 8-4 at the No. 2 spot and freshmen Krista Damirgian (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) and sophomore Amelia Lloyd (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) earned an 8-2 win at the No. 3 doubles spot.

In singles play, Steiner won 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot, Smith earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot, Petrilla won 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 4 spot, Damirgian was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at the No. 5 spot, and Lloyd won 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 6 singles position.

The Bulldogs return to action this weekend when they travel to Mary Washington College for the ITA Southeast Regionals.
