Center Valley, PA (January 21, 2009) – Junior Darnell Braswell (Allentown, PA/William Allen) scored a game-high 19 points helping the DeSales University men's basketball team defeat King's College, 67-58, in a Freedom Conference game on Wednesday evening in Billera Hall.

The Bulldogs improve to 14-2 overall and 7-1 in the Freedom Conference with the win to stay in first place thru the mid-way point of the conference schedule. King's on the other hand falls to 8-8 overall but just 1-7 in the conference standings. DSU was very efficient with the ball, committing just five turnovers and shooting 44.0 percent to record the win.

The first half was back and forth as DeSales seemed ready early to pull away when freshman Bob Zanneo (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) hit back-to-back three-pointers to give DSU an 18-11 lead. That was the largest lead of the half for either team as King's chipped away the deficit and eventually tied the game at 18 at the 7:10 mark on a three from Jim Schule.

DSU regained a five-point lead on a trey from freshman Matt McManus (Malvern, PA/Malvern Prep) before a lay-up with 25 seconds left from Harry Schlichter cut the lead down to two points (27-25) at the break.

The second half saw DeSales build an 11-point advantage with a 12-3 run out of the locker room with Braswell contributing seven of the 12 points and after the Monarchs got within eight at the 11:50 mark, DSU used another 12-3 run over the next five minutes to build its largest lead of the game (17 points) at the seven minute mark and never looked back.

Braswell added six rebounds and four assists to go along with his 19 points as he shot 9-for-12 from the charity stripe in the win. No other Bulldog reached double figures but Zanneo tallied nine points off the bench and sophomore Brian Hunter (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) chipped in with eight points and had four assists. Senior Ed Lapinski (Red Hill, PA/Upper Perkiomen) pulled down a game-high 11 boards and freshman Jamey Bercier (Stroudsburg, PA/Notre Dame) had five points off the bench.

King's saw three players reach double digits including Kevin Conroy with 14 points and 12 each for Schule and Schlichter.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, January 24th when they host Misericordia University in another Freedom Conference game beginning at 3:00 pm. If you are unable to attend you can follow the game's progress via LIVE stats or LIVE audio.
