Center Valley, PA (January 24, 2009) – The backcourt duo of seniors Kim Rarick (Ringtown, PA/North Schuylkill) and LeighAnn Burke (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) combined for 49 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists leading #16 DeSales University over Misericordia University, 80-57, in a Freedom Conference game on Saturday afternoon.

The win improves DeSales to 14-2 overall and 8-1 in the Freedom Conference, while the Cougars fall to 8-7 overall and 4-4 in the conference standings. DSU extended a three-point halftime lead by shooting 60.0 percent in the second half to pull away from MU. The Bulldogs also owned the glass, out-rebounding Misericordia 42-27.

The backcourt duo took turns leading the Bulldogs in the win. Burke started the game on fire scoring 16 of her game-high 28 points over the first 10 minutes of the game to give DSU a 22-14 lead at the 10:37 mark of the opening half. The lead grew to as many as 10 points three different times before MU closed the first twenty minutes with an 8-2 run to trail by just three points after a lay-up from Christine Marks barely beat the halftime buzzer.

In the second half it was Rarick's turn to lead the way as she led an 18-3 run to start the second stanza by scoring the first 13 points of the half including two three-pointers. The Bulldogs never looked back from there as the lead grew to as many as 26 points (80-54) before the final margin was posted.

Burke led the way with 28 points on 10-of-19 shooting and added six rebounds and six assists. Rarick was 8-of-12 from the floor and 3-of-4 from three-point land, finishing with 21 points, four assists, and four steals in the win.

Senior Erica Sovak (Tuxedo, NY/Sleepy Hollow) and sophomore Shaina Dymond (Shickshinny, PA/Northwest) each played well of the bench with Sovak tallying seven points and grabbing three rebounds, and Dymond finishing with 10 points, five rebounds, and four blocked shots. Junior Caitlin Miller (Fogelsville, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) once again led DSU on the glass pulling down 10 boards and freshman Megan Bedard (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) had a nice floor game with five assists.

Lacey DeGraw led the Cougars with 21 points, while Vanessa Wright (10 points) and Jesse Robinson (11 points) also reached double figures.

The Bulldogs return to the road on Wednesday, January 28th when they travel to Manhattanville College for a Freedom Conference game beginning at 6:00 pm.
