Big Run Leads #12 DeSales over Eastern, 83-46

Center Valley, PA (January 7, 2009) – A close game early was blown wide open as #12 DeSales University used a 33-4 run over a span of 13+ minutes to turn a one-point deficit into a 28-point lead mid-way thru the second half to earn its sixth straight win, 83-46, over Eastern University in a Freedom Conference game on Wednesday evening in Billera Hall.

The Bulldogs (9-1, 4-0 Freedom) win their 21st straight game at home and 16th straight game vs. Freedom Conference opponents with the win. DSU shot 42.0 percent for the game and held Eastern (3-5, 0-3 Freedom) to just 27.9 percent shooting. DeSales also enjoyed a healthy, 58-36 edge on the glass and forced 23 Eagle turnovers in the win.

Eastern did start the game red hot opening up 22-21 lead at the 6:31 mark of the first half by shooting 52.2% to start the game. A quick 11-0 run pushed the lead up 10 points for the Bulldogs as junior Kelly Magrann (Sinking Spring, PA/Holy Name) connected on two three-pointers during the spurt. Continuing to lead by 10, DSU ended the half by scoring the last eight points to take a 44-26 advantage into the locker room.

The second half was all Bulldogs as they held the Eagles scoreless over the first 7:34 and led by as many as 42 points once, 77-35, at the 7:29 mark before the final score was posted.

Five players reached double digits including seniors Kim Rarick (Ringtown, PA/North Schuylkill) and LeighAnn Burke (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) with 13 points each. Burke added six assists and three steals and Rarick finished with five helpers and three steals.

Magrann came off the bench to score a season-high 12 points, while junior Caitlin Miller (Fogelsville, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) and sophomore Shaina Dymond (Shickshinny, PA/Northwest) each recorded a double-double in the win. It is Miller's second of the season as she totaled 10 points and 11 boards and Dymond's first of her career as she netted a career-high 10 points and pulled down 10 boards.

Bekah Roland led Eastern with 14 points, while Hannah Tobin (11 points) and Tanisha Starkes (10 points) also reached double digits.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, January 10th when they host Alvernia University in a Freedom Conference game beginning at 1:00 pm. You can follow the game's progress online via LIVE Stats or LIVE Audio if you are unable to attend.
