BOX SCORE

Wilkes-Barre, PA (October 10, 2009) – The DeSales University field hockey team saw its three-game winning streak snapped, falling at Wilkes University, 3-1, in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs are now 5-8 overall and 0-2 in the Freedom with the loss. Wilkes (10-2, 2-1 Freedom) out-shot the Bulldogs 22-7 for the game and held a 9-4 edge in penalty corners.

DSU fell behind early as the Lady Colonels scored just 2:36 into the game but that was the only goal of the half as WU took a 1-0 lead into the break. Wilkes tacked on two more goals early in the second half including one just 1:07 into the second stanza and another at the 43:04 mark.

The Bulldogs got on the board after time had expired as senior Crissy Meehan (Harleysville, PA/Gwynedd-Mercy Academy) scored her second goal of the year on a corner and an assist from junior Melissa Gilroy (Shohola, PA/Delaware Valley).

Freshman Victoria DelToro (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) was tremendous in goal making 15 saves several of which were spectacular.

DeSales returns to action and to Freedom Conference play on Tuesday, October 13th when they host Eastern University for a Freedom Conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
