Bulldogs Cruise Past FDU-Florham for 11th Straight Win

Center Valley, PA (October 14, 2009) – The DeSales University volleyball team seized control of second place in the Freedom Conference on Wednesday night with a decisive 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-17) win over FDU-Florham in Billera Hall in a rematch of last year's Freedom Conference semifinal match-up.

The Bulldogs continued their strong play hitting .333 for the match and serving up eight aces in the win. FDU (14-13, 3-2 Freedom) lost for the fifth straight time and hit just .069 for the match. DeSales has now won 11-straight matches, two shy of tying the all-time record, and improve to 16-6 overall and 4-1 in the Freedom.

DSU used another balanced attack in the win as five different players had seven or more kills in the win. Freshman setter Justine McNulty (Collegeville, PA/Methacton) was sensational once again in running the offense, dishing out 34 assists to go along with four kills and 12 digs.

Leading the attack was sophomore Lauren Hickey (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) with a team-high 10 kills and a .562 hitting percentage. Senior Joann Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) added nine kills and senior Jen Mellon (Media, PA/Penncrest) finished with eight kills. Junior Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had seven kills, eight digs, and a blocks, while freshman Paige Horrigan (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) totaled seven kills and two blocks in the win.

Freshman Eden Reichard (Mertztown, PA/Brandywine) put on a serving clinic with four of the eight aces, including a stretch in the third game when she served nine straight points, turning a 5-2 deficit into an 11-5 lead. Reichard also had eight digs. Senior Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) finished with a match-high 13 digs in the win.

DeSales is off this weekend and will return to action on Tuesday, October 20th when they travel to Manhattanville College for a Freedom Conference match beginning at 7:00 pm.
