Bulldogs Survive at King’s, 4-3; Unbeaten Streak Moves to Five

Wilkes-Barre, PA (October 14, 2009) – The DeSales University women's soccer team was cruising at halftime up 3-0, and held off a furious second half charge from King's College to run its unbeaten streak to five games with a 4-3 win over the Lady Monarchs on Wednesday evening in Freedom Conference action.

DSU moves to .500 for the first time all season evening its record at 6-6-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the Freedom Conference. The Lady Monarchs fall to 4-10 overall and 0-3 in the Freedom with the loss. DeSales had a 20-17 edge in shots in the game as sophomore Melissa Millili (Deptford, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) made six saves in between the pipes for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs were in complete control in the first half opening up a 3-0 lead as sophomore Amanda Fink (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) returned from injury to open the scoring off an assist from junior Kaitlyn Gover (Northampton, PA/Northampton) at the 24:05 mark.

Junior Amanda Ziegler (Aston, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) made it a two-goal game at the 34:22 mark on an unassisted goal, her second of the year, and sophomore Haley Vollmer (Hamburg, PA/Hamburg) scored just 1:05 before the half, another unassisted goal to post the halftime margin.

In the second half Becky Chateaneuf took the game over, scoring three times, including one just 1:01 into the second half, once at the 55:31 mark, and again at the 74:50 mark to pull KC within one for the second time. In between Chateaneuf's second and third goal, senior Katie Halpin (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame) scored what proved to be a very important goal off an assist from Ziegler at the 65:36 mark. It was Halpin's fourth marker of the year.

The Bulldogs will now return to action on Saturday, October 17th when they host FDU-Florham in a Freedom Conference match beginning at Noon.
