Andrews Records 2,000th Dig; Bulldogs Split Tri-Match at Richard Stockton

Pomona, NJ (October 31, 2009) – The DeSales University volleyball team saw its school-record 15-match winning streak come to an end as they split a tri-match with Neumann College and Richard Stockton College on Saturday afternoon at Richard Stockton.

DSU defeated Neumann, 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 27-25), before falling to host Stockton, 3-1 (22-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-18). The split moves DeSales to 20-7 overall as they finish the regular season and prepare for the Freedom Conference playoffs which begin on Wednesday, November 4th at home vs. FDU-Florham (7:00 pm). The 20 wins mark the third straight season head coach Michele Zabinski and the Bulldogs have won 20+ in a year.

In the win over Neumann senior Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) reached unchartered territory recorded her 2,000th career dig to become the first-ever DeSales volleyball player to accomplish the feat. She had 14 digs in the win over Neumann and added 15 more digs in the loss to Richard Stockton. She now has 2,021 career digs.

In the win over Neumann seniors Joann Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) and Jen Mellon (Media, PA/Penncrest) along with junior Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) each had double digit kills. Rivera finished with 11 kills on 24 attempts, Mellon had 10 kills on 19 attempts, and Fehnel had 11 kills on 21 attempts to go along with 12 digs and a block.

Freshman Paige Horrigan (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) added three blocks and fellow freshman Justine McNulty (Collegeville, PA/Methacton) added 34 assists and seven digs in the win. Junior Alyssa Poplaski (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) and freshman Eden Reichard (Mertztown, PA/Brandywine) each totaled nine digs as well.

In the Stockton loss, sophomore Lauren Hickey (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) led the way with 16 kills and Fehnel added 11 kills with no errors and also had 15 digs and two blocks. McNulty finished with 42 assists and 15 digs, while Reichard had 12 digs and Poplaski added nine digs. Mellon totaled seven kills and Horrigan added six kills and a block in the loss.
