Bulldogs Run Win Streak to Eight; Blank Wilkes, 3-0

Wilkes-Barre, PA (October 6, 2009) – The DeSales University volleyball team ran its consecutive win streak to eight matches, defeating Wilkes University, 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-19), in a Freedom Conference match on Tuesday evening at the Marts Center.

The Bulldogs are now 13-6 overall and improve to 3-1 in the Freedom, winning their third straight Freedom match. Wilkes falls to 11-9 overall and 2-2 in the Freedom. DSU hit .252 for the game with 38 kills and six team blocks.

Leading the attack was senior Jen Mellon (Media, PA/Penncrest) who totaled a team-high 10 kills, moving within 11 kills of moving into second place on the all-time kills list. Junior Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) added seven kills, two aces, 12 digs, and five blocks in the win, and senior Joann Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) added six kills.

Senior Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) led the way with 17 digs and freshman Justine McNulty (Collegeville, PA/Methacton) had six kills, 29 assists, and six digs in the win.

DSU returns to action this weekend when they host a tri-match on Saturday with Widener University (10 am) and Franklin & Marshall College (2:00 pm).
