Center Valley, PA (November 24, 2009) – The 7th ranked DeSales University men's basketball team won its 14th straight game at home, cruising past local rival Moravian College, 71-51, in a non-conference game on Tuesday evening in Billera Hall.
The Bulldogs improve to 3-1 overall with the win, while the Greyhounds fall to 0-4 on the year. DSU extends its season series lead to 19-17 with Moravian, winning its ninth straight game between the two teams. The Bulldogs shot 46.4 percent from the field for the game and held MC to just 31.5 percent shooting. The Greyhounds connected on just 3-of-24 attempts from beyond the arc and DeSales dominated the glass, out-rebounding Moravian, 44-31.
A close game (21-15) at the 4:16 mark of the opening half was broken open just before the halftime buzzer as DeSales went on an 11-0 run over the final 4:16 to take a 32-15 lead into the locker room. During the run four different Bulldogs scored including junior Nicholas Rossignoli (Reading, PA/Reading Central Catholic) with four points and senior Rob Schubach (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) with three.
Moravian never got any closer than 12 points early in the second half as DeSales eventually extended its lead to as many as 28 points (69-41) before the final margin was posted. DSU shot 55.6 percent from the field in the second half, while Moravian made just 5-of-25 attempts (20.0 percent) in the opening twenty minutes.
Leading the attack was senior Darnell Braswell (Allentown, PA/William Allen) with a game-high 14 points and eight rebounds. Schubach continued his hot shooting with 13 points and added four rebounds and a career-high five assists in the win. Freshman Brett Moyer (Souderton, PA/Christopher Dock) came off the bench to score nine points and sophomore Bob Zanneo (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) added eight points, all in the first half.
The Bulldogs will now break for a few days for the Thanksgiving holiday before heading to Randolph-Macon College for a non-conference game between two nationally ranked teams on Sunday, November 29th.
