BOX SCORE

Center Valley, PA (November 4, 2009) – A sluggish start was quickly turned around in the second set as the DeSales University volleyball team advanced to the Freedom Conference championship match with its third win over FDU-Florham this season, 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-17), in the Freedom Conference playoffs in Billera Hall on Wednesday evening.

The Bulldogs will advance to the play the #1 seed, Eastern University, on Saturday in the title match with a time to be announced by the Eastern University athletic department sometime tomorrow. DSU will enter that match with a 21-7 overall record after its win tonight, while the Devils season comes to an end with an 18-15 overall record.

FDU took the first set on Wednesday night rallying from a 10-6 deficit to win, 25-23. The Devils took an 11-8 lead early in the second set when junior Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) almost single handedly switched the momentum to the Bulldogs side as she tallied five kills and a block on her rotation in the frontline, turning an 11-8 deficit into an 18-14 lead and forcing Devils' coach Al Campora to burn both of his timeouts during the sequence. From that point forward it was all DeSales as they cruised to wins in the second, third and fourth sets.

Fehnel finished with an impressive line of 13 kills, a .346 hitting percentage, 13 digs, and six blocks in the win. Sophomore Lauren Hickey (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) added 13 kills, senior Joann Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) added 11 kills, and senior Jen Mellon (Media, PA/Penncrest) totaled eight kills. Freshman Paige Horrigan (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) totaled six kills and three blocks.

Freshman Justine McNulty (Collegeville, PA/Methacton) totaled 41 assists and a team-high 16 digs, while senior Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) totaled 14 digs.
