Wilkes-Barre, PA (February 11, 2009) – The 23rd ranked DeSales University women's basketball team held King's College to 31.6 percent shooting and forced 28 Lady Monarch turnovers in a 66-42 win at Scandlon Gymnasium on Wednesday evening in Freedom Conference action.

DeSales improves to 18-4 overall and 12-1 in the Freedom Conference with the win, while the Lady Monarchs fall to 8-14 overall and 6-7 in the Freedom. The Bulldogs committed just 14 turnovers themselves and shot 43.5 percent in the win.

Senior Kaitlyn Fiorino helped the Lady Monarchs start out strong, scoring the first five KC points to lead, 5-2, but senior LeighAnn Burke (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) answered a Fiorino three with one of her own to tie the score and ignite a 12-0 run that pushed DeSales ahead 14-5.

KC scored five straight points to pull within four (14-10), but a 10-0 run capped by a three-pointer from junior Kelly Magrann (Sinking Spring, PA/Holy Name) gave the Bulldogs a 24-10 lead and they never looked back from there holding a double digit lead the rest of the way.

The lead was 14 at the half (35-21) and DeSales held King's without a field goal over the first 10:13 in building a 25-point lead. The largest advantage was 30 points at the 7:53 mark before the final margin was posted.

Burke and fellow senior Kim Rarick (Ringtown, PA/North Schuylkill) combined for 32 points to lead the attack. Burke had a game-high 18 points and Rarick finished with 14 points and four assists. Junior Caitlin Miller (Fogelsville, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and freshman Megan Bedard (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) played well of the bench with eight points.

Fiorino tallied 12 points to lead King's.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday (Valentine's Day), when they travel to Eastern University for a Freedom Conference game beginning 1:00 pm.
