BOX SCORE

Union, NJ (February 26, 2009) – The DeSales University baseball team hung tough in an early season test at #4 Kean University, falling 3-0, despite out-hitting the Cougars, 5-4, in a non-conference game on Thursday afternoon.

The Bulldogs fell behind early as Kean scratched out one run in the second inning and Nick Nolan hit a two-run home run in the third inning staking KU to a 3-0 lead that held up as the final score.

DeSales did mount a few rallies, including loading the bases in the fourth inning with no one out but senior Nick Repas (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) and sophomore Carson Slonaker (East Greenville, PA/Perkiomen School) struck out and freshman Jason Hadinger (Northampton, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) grounded into a fielder's choice to end the threat.

The Bulldogs also put runners at second and third with two out in the ninth inning but junior Doc Neiman (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) flew out to end the game. Senior Chris Brian (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson Township) took the loss, lasting five innings allowing just three hits and three runs, but walking four. Junior Mark Reilly (Cream Ridge, NJ/Notre Dame) pitched very well, tossing 2.2 innings of scoreless relief allowing just one hit.

DeSales takes to the road now as they depart campus on Saturday morning for their spring trip out to San Antonio, TX. The Bulldogs will play six games in seven days before returning to campus next week.
