#14 Bulldogs Roll Past Wilkes, 86-39

Center Valley, PA (February 4, 2009) – The 14th ranked DeSales University women's basketball team started a new winning streak on Wednesday evening rolling past Wilkes University, 86-39, in a Freedom Conference game in Billera Hall.

The Bulldogs improve to 17-3 overall and 11-1 in the Freedom Conference, while Wilkes drops to 10-10 overall and 5-7 in the Freedom. DSU shot 43.1 percent from the field and forced 29 Colonel turnovers in the loss. WU shot just 26.8 percent and went just 8-for-18 from the free throw line.

DSU started slowly trailing 11-10 at the 11:31 mark before it ended the half on a 38-10 run that essentially put away the Colonels. Senior Kim Rarick (Ringtown, PA/North Schuylkill) and freshman Hannah Smith (New Cumberland, PA/Cedar Cliff) started the run with back-to-back three-pointers, while senior LeighAnn Burke (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) led the way with 10 points during the half-ending spurt. The lead grew to as many as 52 points in the second half before the final margin was posted.

Burke finished with a game-high 20 points in just 25 minutes of action and also had four steals. Junior Kaila Wiand (Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford) had a terrific shooting night with 14 points on 4-of-6 from three-point land and Rarick finished with nine points, five assists, and three steals.

Junior Kelly Magrann (Sinking Spring, PA/Holy Name) and sophomore Megan Costello (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic) led the way off the bench with seven and six points respectively, while sophomore Shaina Dymond (Shickshinny, PA/Northwest) blocked four shots and senior Erica Sovak (Tuxedo, NY/George F. Baker) had a team-high seven boards.

Freshman Samantha Simcox and freshman Lindsey Gosse each had eight points to lead Wilkes in the loss.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday, February 7th when they once again step outside the conference to host Albright College beginning at 1:00 pm. For those unable to attend you can follow the game online via LIVE Stats.
