BOX SCORE

Dover, DE (March 11, 2009) – Senior Matthew Brancaccio (Greenvale, NY/North Shore) recorded a hat trick but it was not enough as the DeSales University men's lacrosse team fell for the third straight time to open the 2009 season, 13-8, at Wesley College on Wednesday evening.

The Bulldogs (0-3 overall) once again fell behind early, trailing 4-2 at the end of the first period and 8-3 at the half and were unable to recover as the Wolverines (4-1 overall) scored four times in each of the first three periods before posting the final five-goal win.

DeSales dominated the face-offs and held a sizable advantage in ground balls winning 22 of the 24 face-offs and picking up 41 ground balls as compared to just 29 for Wesley, but that dominance did not show on the final scoreboard as WC had 12 more shots and found the back of the net five more times.

Brancaccio added one assist to his team-high three goals. Junior Kevin Walker (Wilmington, DE/Salesianum) had a terrific day on face-offs winning 15 of 16 and also added one goal. Also scoring goals was senior Joshua Van Hart (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees), freshman Michael Bassani (Califon, NY/Voorhees), senior Andrew Ervin (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy), and freshman Blake Rice (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown).

Bassani, junior Patrick McManimon (Holland, PA/Council Rock South), Van Hart, and Walker also had assists in the loss. Walker totaled a team-high 12 ground balls and Ervin grabbed five ground balls off the bench.

The Bulldogs return to the field on Saturday, March 14th when they take on King's College in an MAC Conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
