DSU Men’s Tennis Opens Season with 8-1 Win over Immaculata

Freshman Tom Allen earned two wins in his first career collegiate match on Thursday afternoon.

Center Valley, PA (March 12, 2009) - The DeSales University men's tennis team got its 2009 season started off on the right foot defeating Immaculata University, 8-1, in a non-conference match on a chilly afternoon in Center Valley, PA.

The Bulldogs (1-0 overall) swept all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead and won five of the six singles matches to finish off the Mighty Macs (0-2 overall). Senior Jake Hoover (Morrisville, PA/Notre Dame) was a double winner earning a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 1 singles spot and teaming with freshman Tom Allen (York, PA/York Catholic) to win 8-5 at the No. 1 doubles position. Allen also earned a 6-0, 6-0 singles win at the No. 3 spot.

At the No. 2 doubles spot, sophomore Michael Cejovic (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains) teamed with fellow sophomore Joe Sulpizio (Bath, PA/Notre Dame) to win, 8-5, and Sulpizio also earned a hard-fought, 7-5, 6-1 win at the No. 5 singles position.

Rounding out Thursday's winners for the Bulldogs were junior Dan Bullen (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) at the No. 4 singles spot (6-4, 6-1), junior Seth Conklin (Valencia, PA/Aquinas Academy) at the No. 6 spot, 6-0, 6-0, and Conklin and freshman Timothy Golden (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview) at the No. 3 doubles flight, 8-5.

The Bulldogs return to action on Monday, March 16th when they travel to Keystone College for another non-conference match beginning at 3:30 pm.
