Center Valley, PA (March 21, 2009) – The DeSales University men's lacrosse team has done something it's never done before and that is start the MAC Conference season with two straight wins as the Bulldogs held on late to record a 7-6 win over Eastern University in what could be a key MAC win at the end of the season on Saturday afternoon.

After taking a 4-3 lead into the halftime break, DSU (2-4, 2-0 MAC) fell behind, 5-4 after the Eagles (3-3, 1-1 MAC) scored two straight goals to open the second half. The Bulldogs had the answer however scoring three straight goals to close out the third period including a beautiful diving goal from senior Matthew Brancaccio (Greenvale, NY/North Shore) with just nine seconds left to give the host's a 7-5 advantage heading into the final period.

EU made it a one-goal game at the 8:54 mark when Nick Mandia scored his 14th tally of the season but junior Jarryd Stamatelos (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) turned into a brick wall over the final eight plus minutes to preserve the one-goal lead as DeSales held on for the crucial conference win.

Brancaccio once again led the way with a team-high three goals on the afternoon, while junior Kevin Walker (Wilmington, DE/Salesianum) added two markers. Senior Joshua Van Hart (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) and fellow senior Andrew Ervin (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) also scored in the win.

Stamatelos, freshman Michael Bassani (Califon, NJ/Voorhees) with two, and sophomore Donald Clemens (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) each had assists in the victory. Stamatelos earned the win in between the pipes with seven saves in three quarters of play and Walker led the way winning 9-of-16 face-offs. Freshman Brendan Guerrier (Bellesrose Terrace, NY/Chaminade) picked up a team-high six ground balls in the win.
