DeSales Drops First MAC Game, 8-5 at Elizabethtown

Elizabethtown, PA (March 25, 2009) – The DeSales University men's lacrosse team suffered its first MAC Conference loss of the season falling at Elizabethtown College, 8-5, on Wednesday afternoon.

Trailing by just one goal at the half, the Bulldogs (2-5, 2-1 MAC) were out-scored 3-1 in the third period as the Blue Jays (4-2, 1-2 MAC) built a three-goal lead and never looked back in the fourth period. DSU won the battle of face-offs winning 11-of-17 but E-Town held a 35-26 advantage in shots and picked up seven more ground balls (35-28) for the game.

Senior Joshua Van Hart (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) led the Bulldog charge with two goals, while fellow seniors Matthew Brancaccio (Greenvale, NY/North Shore) and Andrew Ervin (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) also scored in the loss.

Freshman Michael Bassani (Califon, NY/Voorhees) added an assist, junior Kevin Walker (Wilmington, DE/Salesianum) won 11-of-17 face-offs and had a team-high eight ground balls and freshman Brendan Guerrier (Bellerose Terrace, NY/Chaminade) also played well with seven ground balls. Junior Jarryd Stamatelos (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) made 13 saves in three periods of action in between the pipes.

DeSales returns home and to action on Saturday when they host Richard Stockton College in a non-conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
