Late Rally Falls Short in 3-2 Loss at Delaware Valley

Doylestown, PA (March 27, 2009) – The DeSales University baseball team fell just short in a late inning rally, falling to Delaware Valley College, 3-2, and settling for a split of the regular season series with the Aggies in a Freedom Conference game on Friday afternoon.

After taking the series opener, 8-7 on Tuesday, the Bulldogs (9-8, 1-1 Freedom) trailed 3-0 entering the top of the eighth inning in the second meeting on Friday afternoon.

In the eighth junior Derek Moyer (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) and senior Zac Hess (Harleysville, PA/LaSalle) each knocked in runs to pull the Bulldogs within one at 3-2. In the ninth, DSU had runners on first and second with one out when senior Mike Bianca (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. St. Joseph) was caught trying to steal and third and fellow senior Nick Repas (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) struck out stranding junior Doc Neiman (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) at second to end the game.

The Aggies (13-2, 1-1 Freedom) scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning and all with two outs as Kellen Jarrett singled home Zach Chodur and two Bulldog errors allowed Jarrett to score following a single from Matt BartoJoel Porambo then singled home Barto to finish the scoring in the inning.

Senior James Niesuchouski (Chester, VT/St. Dominic) took the loss lasting six innings scattering eight hits and striking out three. Only one of his three runs allowed was earned. DSU had just five hits in the loss.

The Bulldogs return to the diamond on Saturday when they host Misericordia University in a Freedom Conference doubleheader beginning at Noon.
