Win Streak Snapped as DSU Drops One at FDU

Senior Matt Connors had two of DSU's five hits on the afternoon at FDU-Florham.
Madison, NJ (April 1, 2009) – The DeSales University baseball team saw its three-game winning streak snapped falling to FDU-Florham, 8-1, in a Freedom Conference game on a dreary Wednesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs fall to 12-9 overall and 3-2 in the Freedom, while the Devils improve to 11-4-1 overall and 3-0 in the Freedom. The game was halted in the top of the ninth inning due to rain. Junior Mark Reilly (Cream Ridge, NJ/Notre Dame) took the loss, as he lasted four innings allowing seven hits and four runs.

DSU tied the game at one in the top of the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly from junior Derek Moyer (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) plating senior Matt Connors (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) who had doubled to lead off the inning and moved to third on a wild pitch.

The Devils answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning, one more in the fifth and blew the game open with three unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. DSU had just five hits on the afternoon, including two from Connors.

DeSales returns to action tomorrow when they host The University of Scranton in a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
