Bulldogs Stay in Playoff Hunt with 14-5 Win over Misericordia

Center Valley, PA (April 18, 2009) – Freshman Michael Bassani (Califon, NY/Voorhees) had three goals and two assists leading the DeSales University men's lacrosse team to a 14-5 win over Misericordia University in an MAC Conference game on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs keep their playoff hopes alive with the win as they move to 4-9 overall and 3-5 in the MAC Conference. The Cougars fall to 3-10 overall and 1-7 in the MAC. DSU snaps its four-game losing skid and needs to continue the winning ways to stay in the playoff race with a win in their next game at Alvernia on Wednesday, April 22nd.

DeSales dominated this game from start to finish, opening up a 4-0 lead after one period and led 7-2 entering the half. The Bulldogs out-scored the Cougars, 4-1 in third period, to lead 11-3 after three frames and cruised the rest of the way. DSU controlled almost every area of the game enjoying a 48-15 edge in shots, a 48-22 advantage in ground balls, and won 16-of-23 face-offs taken in the game.

Bassani led the way with his three goals and two assists, while senior Matthew Brancaccio (Greenvale, NY/North Shore) added a goal and two assists. Freshman Jeff Cook (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) had three goals and an assist and junior Kevin Walker (Wilmington, DE/Salesianum), senior Andrew Ervin (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy), and senior Joshua Van Hart (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) each had two goals in the win.

Sophomore Donald Clemens (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) also tallied one goal and junior Matthew Kruszewski (Atco, NJ/Winslow Township) had an assist in the win. Walker dominated the face-offs winning 12-of-13 and picked up a game-high nine ground balls, while freshman Brendan Guerrier (Bellerose Terrace, NY/Chaminade) added eight ground balls.
