BOX SCORE

Collegeville, PA (April 23, 2009) – The DeSales University baseball team went to the 13th inning deadlocked at four with Ursinus College, but the inning never started as darkness had set in and the two teams had to settle for a 4-4 tie in a non-conference game on a windy Thursday afternoon.

The Bulldogs move to 19-13-1 overall, while the Bears actually record their second tie of the season and are now 21-9-2 overall. DSU finished with 15 hits as compared to just 10 for Ursinus, while both teams made two errors in the field.

DeSales took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when senior Mike Bianca (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. St. Joseph) doubled home sophomore Mike Newland (Frenchtown, NJ/Delaware Valley), who had singled.

Ursinus scored solo runs in the second, fourth, and sixth innings to take a 3-1 lead but DSU tied the game at three in the top of the seventh inning when senior Nick Repas (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) and junior Derek Moyer (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) each doubled in runs.

The game remained tied into the 11th inning when the Bulldogs manufactured a run as junior Andrew Feher (Riegelsville, PA/Palisades), who entered as a pinch-runner, stole third and scored on a throwing error by the Bears' catcher.

DSU was unable to hold the lead as Ursinus scored a two-out run in the bottom of the frame on a single and both teams went scoreless in the 12th before the game was called due to darkness.

Bianca finished with three hits including two doubles and an RBI. Moyer had two doubles and an RBI, junior Doc Neiman (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) had two hits, senior Zac Hess (Harleysville, PA/LaSalle) also had two hits and sophomore Carson Slonaker (East Greenville, PA/The Perkiomen School) rounded out the offensive leaders with two hits.

DSU returns to action tomorrow when they travel to Manhattanville College for the first of two games vs. the Valiants this weekend as the Bulldogs look to clinch their 10th straight conference playoff appearance.
