Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Elizabethtown 9-2 in MAC Playoffs

Elizabethtown, PA (April 27, 2009) – The DeSales University men's lacrosse team fell behind 4-0 after one quarter, and was unable to recover losing to Elizabethtown College 9-2 in the first round of the MAC Conference playoffs on Monday afternoon.

DeSales' season comes to an end with a 6-10 overall record, having earned the first playoff appearance in school history. Elizabethtown College moves to 12-3 overall and advances to the semifinals where they will take on either FDU-Florham or Lycoming College.

After falling behind 2-0 early in the game, junior Kevin Walker (Wilmington, DE/Salesianum) scored an unassisted goal that was waived off because of an illegal stick. The Blue Jays took advantage scoring just as the three minute penalty time had expired to take a 3-0 lead.

Senior Joshua Van Hart (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhes) got the Bulldogs on the board with 1:16 left, but E-town countered scoring with 26 seconds left to take a 5-1 lead after one period. The Blue Jays scored three unanswered goals in the second quarter to lead 8-1 at the half, and DeSales was unable to get anything going offensively in the second half.

Van Hart and senior Andrew Ervin (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) scored the Bulldogs two goals and Walker had an assist. Walker, freshman Brendan Guerrier (Bellarose Terrace, NY/Chaminade) and junior Daniel Quinn (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) led the way with four ground balls each.

As a team, DeSales was out-shot 42-17, and the Blue Jays held a 48-27 edge on ground balls. Junior Jarryd Stamatelos (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) had 13 saves in 30 minutes of action, and sophomore Justin Campanelli (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) had five saves in the second half.
