Bulldogs Struggle Late in 15-6 Loss to York

Junior Derek Moyer had two hits and three RBI's in the loss on Monday.

Center Valley, PA (April 27, 2009) – York College (Pa.) scored 10 runs over the final three innings as the Spartans defeated the DeSales University baseball team, 15-6, in a non-conference game on another beautiful day on Monday afternoon at Butz Field.

The Bulldogs fall to 20-16-1 overall as they conclude their 2009 schedule on Wednesday when they travel to local rival Moravian College for a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm. York improves to 27-12 overall.

Both teams scored twice in the first inning as sophomore Carson Slonaker (East Greenville, PA/Perkiomen School) drove in two runs with a one-out single. York scored three times in the third and DSU answered with one run on an RBI double from junior Derek Moyer (Harleysville, PA/Souderton). Both teams went scoreless thru the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings before York exploded for five runs in the seventh to take a 10-3 lead.

The Spartans added two more in the eighth and three in the ninth, while DeSales crossed home plate three times in the eighth to provide the final tally. Moyer drove in two more runs in the eighth with a two-RBI triple.

Sophomore Matt Angelillis (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) took the loss allowing five runs over 2.2 innings. Slonaker finished with three hits and two RBI's and Moyer had two hits and three RBI's in the loss. Senior Nick Repas (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) also had three hits, while senior Greg Treat (Concord, NH/Concord) and sophomore Mike Newland (Frenchtown, NJ/Delaware Valley) each scored twice.
