Bulldogs Hit Six Home Runs in 22-5 Rout of Eastern

St. David's, PA (April 7, 2009) – Senior Zac Hess (Harleysville, PA/LaSalle) hit two home runs and the DeSales University baseball team totaled six dingers as a team, routing Eastern University, 22-5, in a Freedom Conference game on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs improve to 14-12 overall and 4-4 in the Freedom, while the Eagles drop to 3-17 overall and 0-5 in the Freedom.  DSU totaled 21 hits, 10 of which for extra base hits.

DeSales jumped out early scoring three times in both the first and second innings to lead 6-0. After EU crossed home plate twice in the bottom of the second inning and each team went scoreless in the third, DSU exploded for six runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to lead 15-2. The Eagles cut the margin down to 10 runs in the bottom of the fifth, but a four-run sixth and three-run seventh provided the final margin.

Several Bulldogs had terrific days at the plate including Hess who went 3-for-4 with three runs and six RBI's. Among the other players with multiple hits were freshman Jack Kavetski (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh) with two hits and four runs scored, junior Derek Moyer (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) with three hits, including a homer, three runs and three RBI's, and senior Nick Repas (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) with a team-high four hits, three runs, and two RBI's.

Freshman Ethan Moser (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) went 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBI's, sophomore Carson Slonaker (East Greenville, PA/Perkiomen School) was 2-for-3 with two RBI's off the bench and freshman Jason Hadinger (Northampton, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) hit his first career home run, a three-run shot in the seventh inning to round out the offensive leaders. Repas and Moser joined Hess, Repas, and Moyer in the home run parade.

Sophomore Mike Newland (Frenchtown, NJ/Delaware Valley) earned the win going five innings allowing five runs. Sophomore Alex Brown (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame) pitched three scoreless innings in relief.

The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow when they host FDU-Florham in the final game of their two-game regular season series at Butz Field beginning at 3:30 pm.
