Women’s Tennis Opens Season with 9-0 Win over Immaculata

Center Valley, PA (September 1, 2009) – The DeSales University women's tennis team got started on the right foot, blanking Immaculata University, 9-0, to start the season with a non-conference win at home on a picture perfect day on Tuesday afternoon.

The Mighty Macs had just five players and were forced to forfeit two points to the Bulldogs at the start and DSU made it 4-0 quickly with two wins at the No. 1 and 2 doubles spots. Junior Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) teamed with sophomore Christine Petrilla (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert-Hamilton East) to win 8-0 at the No. 1 spot, while sophomore Krista Damirgian (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) combined with freshman Ariane Cain (Reading, PA/Exeter Township) to win, 8-2 at the No. 2 spot.

In singles play, Steiner got things started with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 1 spot, Petrilla won, 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot, and Damirgian earned a hard-fought 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (7-5) victory at the No. 3 spot.

Cain had a very nice collegiate debut earning two wins including a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 4 singles position and junior Amelia Lloyd (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) was a winner at the No. 5 spot, 6-3, 6-4.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Friday when they take to the road to take on Neumann College beginning at 4:00 pm.
