Hickey Continues to Play Well as DSU Splits Tri-Match at St. Mary’s (MD)

Sophomore Lauren Hickey had a team-high 20 kills in the tri-match at St. Mary's (MD) on Saturday.

St. Mary's, MD (September 19, 2009) – Sophomore Lauren Hickey (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) continued to play well at the net, blasting a team-high 20 kills over two matches as the DeSales University volleyball team split its tri-match at St. Mary College (MD) on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs won their first match, avenging an earlier season loss, defeating Goucher College, 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-17), before falling to the host St. Mary's (MD), 3-1 (25-20, 27-29, 25-21, 25-22) in a match that was tight all the way to the end.

In the win over Goucher, Hickey totaled a team-high eight kills. Junior Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had five kills and 10 digs, freshman Paige Horrigan (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) had five kills in just eight attempts, and senior Joann Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) added five kills and seven digs.

Freshman #Justine McNulty# (Collegeville, PA/Methacton) added 26 assists and senior Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had 12 digs.

In the loss to St. Mary's, Hickey again had a team-high with 12 kills. Fehnel added 10 kills, 18 digs, and four blocks, senior Jen Mellon (Media, PA/Penncrest) finished with nine kills and eight blocks, Rivera added eight kills, and Horrigan had seven blocks. McNulty had 36 assists, Andrews tallied 32 digs, and junior Alyssa Poplaski (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) finished with 15 digs.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Tuesday when they return home to continue Freedom Conference play as they host Delaware Valley College beginning at 7:00 pm.
