Matthews Goal, DelToro Shutout Lead DeSales past Marywood, 1-0

Freshman Victoria DelToro made just one save but it was a big one in the 1-0 win over Marywood.

Center Valley, PA (September 21, 2009) – The DeSales University field hockey team got back into the win column with a 1-0 win over Marywood University in a non-conference game on another beautiful day on Monday afternoon.

Junior Jamie Matthews (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown) provided the only goal of the day at the 25:54 mark when her shot found the back of the cage. It was her third goal of the season. The game featured very little action inside each team's circle with DeSales holding a 9-3 advantage in shots. Only six shots in the game were on goal.

Marywood did make a run at the lead late in the game and freshman Victoria DelToro (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) recorded her first career shutout in the win making just one save, but it was a big one with under five minutes left on a hard shot to the glove side.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday, September 26^th when they begin Freedom Conference play on the road at Delaware Valley College beginning at Noon.
