Bulldogs Nearly Upset Unbeaten King’s; Falls 5-4

Center Valley, PA (September 24, 2009) – The DeSales University women's tennis team just missed sending King's College home with its first loss of the season, falling to the Lady Monarchs, 5-4, in a Freedom Conference match on Thursday afternoon.

DSU (2-5, 1-1 Freedom) started off the match with one win in doubles play as junior Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) teamed with sophomore Christine Petrilla (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert-Hamilton East) at the No. 1 spot to win, 8-6.

Steiner and Petrilla continued their success in singles action, as Steiner won 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot and Petrilla equaled that win at the No. 2 spot, 6-2, 6-1. Junior Amelia Lloyd (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) earned the final point for the Bulldogs winning a hard-fought three-set match, 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) for her third singles win of the year at the No. 5 spot.

The Bulldogs return to action this weekend when they travel south to the ITA Southeast Regional Tournament held at Mary Washington College.
