Balanced Attack Leads DSU in 3-0 Sweep of Misericordia

Center Valley, PA (September 30, 2009) – Five different Bulldogs had six or more kills as the DeSales University volleyball team used a balanced attack to sweep past Misericordia University, 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-11), in a Freedom Conference match on Wednesday evening in Billera Hall.

Sophomore Lauren Hickey (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) led the way with 11 kills and senior Joann Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) also reached double digits with 10 tallies. Junior Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had nine kills, 13 digs and a block and senior Jen Mellon (Media, PA/Penncrest) was a force on the right-side with eight kills and three blocks.

Freshman Justine McNulty (Collegeville, PA/Methacton) had 39 assists and two aces, fellow freshman Paige Horrigan (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) continued her very strong play at the net with six kills and six blocks, while senior Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) (18 digs) and freshman Eden Reichard (Mertztown, PA/Brandywine) (15 digs) were dynamite on the defensive end.

As a team, DeSales totaled 49 kills and hit .280 for the match with eight team blocks, while Misericordia had just 29 kills and hit .070 with two blocks.

DSU wastes no time returning to action when they travel to Baltimore, MD tomorrow night looking for its fifth straight win in the season's rubber match with Goucher College beginning at 7:00 pm.
