Fehnel Shines as Bulldogs Post 1-2 Mark at Johns Hopkins Tournament

Baltimore, MD, (September 5, 2009) – Junior Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had a terrific weekend totaling 38 kills, 48 digs, and 11 blocks over the three matches as the DeSales University volleyball team posted a 1-2 mark at the Johns Hopkins University Tournament held on Friday and Saturday night.

DSU fell to tournament host Johns Hopkins University in the opener on Friday, 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-20), defeated Edgewood College (WI), 3-2 (25-22, 25-22, 20-25, 20-25, 15-13) in the first match on Saturday, and lost to Goucher College, 3-2 (26-24, 25-22, 25-12, 25-16, 10-15), in the final match of the weekend on Saturday afternoon.

Fehnel had her best match in the 3-2 loss to Goucher when she totaled 19 kills, 17 digs, five blocks, and one service ace. Other leaders from the weekend included sophomore Lauren Hickey (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) with 22 kills, senior Jen Mellon (Media, PA/Penncrest) with 20 kills and nine blocks, and senior Joann Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) with 24 kills. Rivera became the sixth player in school history to record 1,000-career kills in the win over Edgewood on Saturday.

Senior Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) totaled 64 digs over the three matches, while freshman Justine McNulty (Collegeville, PA/Methacton) had 116 assists and 25 digs, and fellow freshman Eden Reichard (Mertztown, PA/Brandywine) had 27 digs over the two matches on Saturday.

The Bulldogs won't return to action until Friday, September 11th when they travel to the Buttermaker Volleyball Tournament at Muhlenberg College on Friday and Saturday.
