Bulldogs Erupt for Nine Goals in Win over Wheelock

Boston, MA, (September 6, 2009) – The DeSales University women's soccer team got its first win of the season in grand fashion on Sunday afternoon, defeating Wheelock College (MA), 9-0, in a non-conference contest in the second game of its weekend trip to the Boston area.

The Bulldogs (1-2 overall) scored seven times in the first half to blow the game open and out-shot Wheelock (0-2 overall), 29-6 for the game in the win. Senior Nicole Pietrobon (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) started the scoring with the first two goals of the game on assists from freshman Tori Kinek (Blandon, PA/Fleetwood) on the first one and junior Amanda Ziegler (Aston, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) and freshman Jordan DeMatto (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) on the second one.

Nicole's sister, freshman Christina Pietrobon (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic), then got in the act scoring the next goal on an assist by sophomore Amanda Fink (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) and junior Jena Meaney (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph Hill Academy) scored to make it 4-0. Freshman Regina Kessler (Whitehall, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) followed suit with the next two goals that included assists from DeMatto and senior Katie Halpin (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame) and sophomore Haley Vollmer (Hamburg, PA/Hamburg) scored unassisted to finish off the first-half barrage.

In the second half, Halpin scored off a feed from N. Pietrobon and senior Gina Locke (Gardner, MA/Gardner) notched her first tally of the year at the 79:33 mark to finish the scoring in the game. Sophomore Melissa Millili (Deptford, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) made three saves to earn her first shutout of the season in the win.

DeSales returns to action on Thursday, September 7th when they travel to Muhlenberg College for a non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
