Dallas, PA (January 13, 2009) – The DeSales University men's basketball team shot 52.4 percent (11-of-21) from three-point land and used a 12-1 run mid-way thru the second half earning a 74-60 win over Misericordia University on the road in Freedom Conference action on Wednesday evening at the Anderson Center.
DeSales (10-4, 4-0 Freedom) shook off a sluggish start that saw Misericordia (8-6, 2-2 Freedom) jump out to a 12-4 lead over the first six and a half minutes. The Cougars continued to lead by eight at the 12:34 mark when sophomore Bob Zanneo (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) ignited a 12-4 run over the next five minutes with eight points to tie the game at 18 with 7:40 left in the opening half.
Back-and-forth went the remainder of the half with neither team leading by more than three points as a three-pointer from senior Rob Schubach (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) with 25 seconds left helped the Bulldogs take a one-point lead into the locker room.
DeSales continued to lead for most of the start of the half until MU tied the game at 43 at the 13:49 mark. The Bulldogs responded to the sixth tie of the game with a game-clinching 12-1 run, taking a 55-44 lead at the 10:27 mark as Schubach scored five points and Zanneo capped off the spurt with another trey.
Misericordia got within six points three times over the final 10 minutes but a 7-0 run started by a three-pointer from senior Darnell Braswell (Allentown, PA/William Allen) after the Cougars got within six for the third time pushed the lead up to 13 points with 2:54 left and the Bulldogs cruised the rest of the way.
Braswell registered his second double-double of the season and the 11th of his career with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Zanneo added 18 points and Schubach finished with eight points off the bench. Junior Brian Hunter (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) had a strong floor game with seven points, seven assists, and two steals in the win.
Misericordia got 15 points from Jeff Slanovec, 14 points from Dom Del Prete, and 12 points from Robbie Johnson in the loss.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, January 16th when they travel to FDU-Florham for another Freedom Conference game beginning at 3:00 pm.
