Bulldogs Even Conference Record with 100-48 Win over Wilkes

Center Valley, PA (January 20, 2010) – Five players reached double figures and two recorded double-doubles as the DeSales University women's basketball team continued to play well with a 100-48 win over Wilkes University in a Freedom Conference game on Wednesday evening in Billera Hall.

The Bulldogs are now 7-9 overall and 3-3 in the Freedom Conference, just one game out of a three-way tie for second place in the conference standings heading into a Saturday match-up with King's College. The Colonels fall to 3-13 overall and 1-5 in the Freedom.

Wilkes did have a strong start to this game making five of its first seven shots to open up a 13-7 lead six minutes into the game, but the Bulldogs took over from there. DSU used a 16-0 run over the next six minutes to take a 10-point lead (23-13) and eventually led by 23 points at the break after a three-pointer from senior Kelly Magrann (Sinking Spring, PA/Holy Name) just before the halftime buzzer.

Junior Lori Lidlow (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) led the way in the first half with 14 points as eight of the nine Bulldogs to play in the first half scored. DSU forced 24 first half Wilkes turnovers and held the Colonels to just 3-of-17 from the field after its hot start.

The Bulldogs kept the pressure on in the second half, scoring 56 points to reach the century mark for the first time since the first game of the 2006-07 season. DeSales torched the nets in the second half, converting 50.0 percent of its shots, to shoot 41.9 percent from the field in the game. Wilkes finished the game shooting just 32.1 percent from the field and committed 39 turnovers in the loss.

Lidlow led the way with a game-high 22 points and added four steals. Freshman Colleen Gavin (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while senior Kaila Wiand (Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford) garnered her first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Wiand also had three assists, four steals and two blocks in the win.

Magrann finished with 16 points to go along with three assists and three steals, while junior Megan Montchyk (Bellmawr, NJ/Paul VI) recorded a new career-high for the second straight game with 16 tallies off the bench. Montchyk also had four assists and five steals.

Sophomore Hannah Smith (New Cumberland, PA/Cedar Cliff) totaled a game-high seven assists and another game-high six steals, fellow sophomore Cherelle Simmons (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) pulled down nine rebounds, and junior Shaina Dymond (Shickshinny, PA/Northwest) finished with nine points and five boards.

Wilkes was led by Lyndsay Ellis with 15 points and Megan Kazmerski with 10 points. Lindsey Gosse totaled eight points and 14 rebounds for the Colonels.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday when they host rival King's College in a very important Freedom Conference game beginning at 2:00 pm. For those unable to attend you can follow along online via LIVE Stats and LIVE Audio.
