Center Valley, PA (October 19, 2010) – The DeSales University women's soccer team dug a big hole early and was unable to climb out of it falling to Misericordia University, 7-2, in a critical Freedom Conference game for both teams on Tuesday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (5-10-1, 0-4-1 Freedom) allowed six first-half goals to fall behind 6-1 at the break and were unable to get back into the game in the second half. Misericordia (10-4-2, 2-2-1 Freedom) out-shot the Bulldogs 18-14 and had a 5-2 edge in corner kicks in the win.
Scoring for the Bulldogs was junior
Haley Vollmer (Hamburg, PA/Hamburg) from about 35 yards out in the first half on a feed from junior
Amanda Fink (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) and freshman
Brady Walsh (Leesport, PA/Schuylkill Valley) also from Fink early in the second half. The goals were Vollmer's fourth and Walsh' 13th of the season. Fink now has a team-high seven assists, moving her within three helpers of tying
Emily LaDuke's all-time record at DeSales. It also ties the mark for most assists in a season also set by LaDuke.
DeSales returns to action this Saturday when they travel to Delaware Valley College for another Freedom Conference game beginning at Noon.
