BOX SCORE

Dallas, PA (October 2, 2010) – The DeSales University field hockey team fell behind 2-0 at the half and trailed 3-0 before scoring three second-half goals but were unable to keep Misericordia University off the board in the second half in a 5-3 Freedom Conference loss.

The Bulldogs (4-6, 0-2 Freedom) put up a strong fight in the second half, scoring three times, but every time DSU had appeared to be mounting a comeback, the Cougars (5-5, 2-0 Freedom) responded with a goal of their own in the win. The shots were even, 16 each, and the Bulldogs held a 10-4 edge in penalty corners but were unable to win the goal scoring battle in the loss.

Trailing 3-0 four minutes into the second half, senior Amy Pulcini (Easton, PA/Easton) got the Bulldogs on the board at the 42:39 mark with her sixth goal of the season, an unassisted tally. The Cougars answered just six minutes later when Samantha Sorokas scored her fourth of five goals on the day at 48:48.

Sophomore Alyssa Knappenberger (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton) tallied her first goal of the season on an assist from junior Carla Nunez (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North) at 54:34, but again MU answered just 52 second later with Sorokas' fifth tally of the game. Senior Jamie Matthews (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown) scored off a feed from Knappenberger at 60:46 to provide the final margin.

DSU will return to action on Thursday, October 7th when they travel to Immaculata University for a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
