Center Valley, PA (October 30, 2010) – Junior
Amanda Fink (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) scored two goals and the DeSales University women's soccer team ended its 2010 season on a positive note with a 4-0 win over King's College in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs finish the season with a 6-11-1 overall record and a 1-5-1 mark in the Freedom Conference. King's falls to 1-17-1 overall and 0-6-1 in the Freedom. DSU out-shot the Monarchs, 27-3, and held a 7-5 edge in corner kicks in the win.
Freshman
Brady Walsh (Leesport, PA/Schuylkill Valley) got the scoring started just 1:34 into the game when she took control of a ball that was not cleared by a defender in the box and beat the Lady Monarch goalkeeper thru her legs for her 15th tally of the year.
Fink made it a 2-0 game just 2:05 later when she took a centering pass from junior
Haley Vollmer (Hamburg, PA/Hamburg) and volleyed home her sixth goal of the year. The score stood at 2-0 for the rest of the half as both teams regrouped.
In the second half Fink scored again at the 64:21 mark, taking the rebound of a saved shot off the boot of freshman
Heather Santos (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West), and beating the KC goalkeeper. Santos then tallied her first career goal to round out the scoring as senior
Amanda Ziegler (Aston, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) sent a long pass to sophomore
Regina Kessler (Whitehall, PA/Allentown Central Catholic), who pushed a thru ball to Santos who beat the charging keeper as the ball trickled into the net.
Freshman
Jen Schmidt (Croydon, PA/Nazareth) made the only save necessary, combining with junior
Melissa Millili (Deptford, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) for DSU's fifth shutout of the season.
