Madison, NJ (October 9, 2010) – Junior Haley Vollmer (Hamburg, PA/Hamburg) scored two goals but the DeSales University women's soccer team suffered a heart-breaking loss on a penalty kick in the first overtime to fall 3-2 at FDU-Florham in Freedom Conference action on Saturday.

DSU (5-7-1, 0-1-1 Freedom) showed tremendous heart and guts all afternoon coming back from a 1-0 and 2-1 deficit to eventually tie the game a second time with just 6:40 left in regulation but a foul call in the box with just over three minutes left in the first overtime gave the Devils (9-4-1, 2-0 Freedom) a PK and they capitalized to secure the win.

Trailing 1-0 at the break, Vollmer scored her first of the game and the second of the season just 4:55 into the second half off an assist from freshman Meghan Monroy (Torrington, CT/Torrington). FDU re-took the lead at the 69:50 mark but Vollmer was up to the task yet again scoring the game-tying goal with 6:40 to go in regulation, this time on assist from junior Amanda Fink (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth).

The game went to overtime where each team had chances to score before the penalty kick was called at the 96:19 mark. Lora Fink converted the attempt, handing DSU a disheartening loss. Junior Melissa Millili (Deptford, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) had four saves in the loss.

DeSales will look to get back on track on Wednesday evening when they travel to Wilkes University for another Freedom Conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
