Lori Lidlow (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) led four players in double figures with 19 points as the DeSales University women's basketball team got off to a fast start with a 79-28 win over Cedar Crest College in non-conference action on Monday evening.
Leading by just two points mid-way thru the second half, the Bulldogs (1-0 overall) shook off some early game cobwebs and used a 28-7 run over the 9:46 to build a 39-16 halftime advantage. Lidlow started the run with four straight points before senior
Megan Montchyk (Bellmawr, NJ/Paul VI) and junior
Hannah Smith (New Cumberland, PA/Cedar Cliff) knocked down back-to-back three-pointers.
DSU cruised home in the second half allowing just 12 points in the second stanza to the Falcons (0-1 overall). For the game the Bulldogs shot 43.9 percent and forced 47 turnovers. DeSales fell just three steals short of tying the single-game record with 29 swipes and out-rebounded CCC, 38-34, despite taking 23 more shots in the game.
Lidlow totaled her game-high 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting and added five rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Freshman
Sondrine Glovas (Easton, PA/Wilson) added 12 points and four steals, Montchyk had 10 points, and freshman
Julia Duffy (Oceanport, NJ/Shore Regional) finished with 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds off the bench.
Smith tallied six points, five assists, and five steals and sophomore
Colleen Gavin (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) and senior
Shaina Dymond (Shickshinny, PA/Northwest) each had seven points.
The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday when they return to the road to take on Cabrini College in another non-conference game beginning at 6:00 pm.
