Bulldogs Roll Past Cabrini, 71-42; Simmons Tallies Double-Double

Radnor, PA (November 17, 2010) – The DeSales University women's basketball team raced out to an 18-1 lead and shot 50.9 percent from the field en route to a 71-42 win over Cabrini College in non-conference action on Wednesday evening in Nerney Field House.

DeSales (2-0 overall) saw 10 players reach the scoring column as it dominated both ends of the floor holding the Cavaliers (0-2 overall) to just 25.5 percent shooting, forcing 21 turnovers, and out-rebounding CC, 40-30.

Over the first seven and a half minutes DSU rolled to an 18-1 lead thanks to five lay-ups and six turnovers by Cabrini. The Cavs regrouped and pulled within eight points (20-12) at the 7:10 mark before a quick 8-0 run pushed the lead up to 16 points with 5:35 left on a three-pointer from freshman Megan Gallagher (Abington, PA/St. Basil Academy).

A 12-point halftime lead was cut to seven early in the second half before DeSales once again clamped down on the defensive end and put together a 26-2 run that saw Cabrini score just two points over an 11-minute span as the Bulldogs took a 66-35 lead to put the game away.

During the spurt seven different players scored including a team-high seven points from senior Lori Lidlow (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North).

Lidlow led all scorers with 17 points and junior Cherelle Simmons (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey) recorded her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Sondrine Glovas (Easton, PA/Wilson) and sophomore Colleen Gavin (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) each had nine points, while senior Megan Montchyk (Bellmawr, NJ/Paul VI) finished with four points, six assists, and three steals.

Cabrini was led by freshman Colleen Stewart with a team-high 10 points.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday when they host Ursinus College in the opening game of the Starter's Pub Tip-Off Tournament at 6:00 pm in Billera Hall.
