Strong First-Half Leads Bulldogs to Win over PSU-Schuylkill

Reading, PA (November 19, 2010) – The DeSales University men's basketball team scored opened up a 30-point halftime lead and never looked back, earning its second win of the season, 72-54, over PSU-Schuylkill in the opening round of the Alvernia University Tip-Off Tournament on Friday evening at the Physical Education Center.

DSU (2-0 overall) opened the game on a 19-3 run with three players doing all the damage during the spurt led by eight points from sophomore Brian Kerwin (Basking Ridge, NJ/Immaculata). Sophomore Brett Moyer (Souderton, PA/Christopher Dock) added seven points and junior Bob Zanneo (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) finished it off with four points.

The lead never went below 13 points in the opening half before peaking at 30 tallies twice including the halftime score of 45-15. DSU shot 46.2 percent from the field in the opening half and forced 15 Nittany Lion (0-4 overall) turnovers.

In the second half the lead grew to as many as 34 points and was 31 at the 6:07 mark before PSU-Schuylkill finished the game on a 17-4 run to provide the final 72-54 margin. The Bulldogs finished the game shooting 46.0 percent from the field and out-rebounded the Nittany Lions, 49-36, leading to the win.

Kerwin had a team-high 13 points to lead DeSales, while Moyer also reached double digits with 11 tallies. Senior Brian Hunter (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) finished with nine points and Zanneo also netted nine points. Junior Jamey Bercier (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) had a team-high 11 rebounds and Moyer pulled down seven boards.

Cory Houser had a team-high 14 points in the loss for the Nittany Lions.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday when travel back to Alvernia University to take on the Crusaders in the Tournament championships at 3:00 pm. LIVE Stats and LIVE video will both be available for the game.
