BOX SCORE

Center Valley, PA (March 26, 2010) – Freshman David Drinks (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) and senior Mark Reilly (Cream Ridge, NJ/Notre Dame) combined on a six-hit shutout, striking out three leading the DeSales University baseball team past Delaware Valley College, 7-0, in the first game of a three-game series this weekend on Friday afternoon in Freedom Conference action.

The Bulldogs (8-5, 4-0 Freedom) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when sophomore Jason Hadinger (Northampton, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) singled home sophomore Nick Chiovitti (Thomaston, CT/Holy Cross).

That one-run lead stood until the seventh inning when the Bulldogs tacked on two insurance runs when sophomore Kenny Ridge (Allentown, NJ/Steinert) stole home on a double steal with senior Derek Moyer (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) who later scored on an RBI groundout from sophomore Jack Kavetski (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh).

In the bottom of the eighth inning and runners on first and third and two outs, Reilly relieved Drinks and induced a ground ball to third base that Moyer gobbled up and tossed to first for the final out. DSU then blew the game open in the top of the ninth scoring four runs on two hits, two walks, and two Aggie (7-5, 1-2 Freedom) errors with the big blow, a two-RBI single from freshman Derek Chrismer (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood), and Reilly sealed the shutout, retiring the side in order in the ninth to earn his first career save.

Drinks is now 3-0 on the season. He retired the Aggies in order twice and allowed just five base runners to reach second base thru his 7.2 innings pitched. Hadinger, Chrismer, and junior Mike Newland (Frenchtown, NJ/Delaware Valley) each had two hits in the win, while Moyer and Ridge each scored twice.

The Bulldogs will look to sweep the series tomorrow when they host these same Aggies in the second and third game of the series beginning at 1:00 pm at Butz Field. For those unable to attend you can view the game online via LIVE Stats at the following link – CLICK HERE.
