Center Valley, PA (April 10, 2010) – The DeSales University men's lacrosse team trailed 8-2 entering the fourth quarter but reeled off five straight goals to pull within one (8-7) and had appeared to tie the game at eight, but the tying goal was waved off because of a push and Widener University added an empty net goal with 18 seconds left to earn a 9-7 win over the Bulldogs in MAC Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
DeSales falls to 3-7 overall and 2-3 in the MAC, while the Pride improve to 5-5 overall and 4-1 in the MAC. Widener enjoyed a 38-19 advantage in shots and had a 36-25 edge in ground balls. The Pride won 11-of-20 face-offs on the day and had just one failed clear. Junior Justin Campanelli (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) continued to play well in net for the Bulldogs making 14 saves in the loss.
Junior Whit Bruemmer (Holland, PA/Council Rock South) led the scoring attack with four goals and one assist. Freshman James Guerrier (Floral Park, NY/Kellenberg Memorial), senior Matthew Kruszewski (Atco, NJ/Winslow Township), and sophomore Michael Bassani (Califon, NJ/Voorhees) each had one goal for the Bulldogs. Bassani, sophomore Brendan Guerrier (Floral Park, NY/Chaminade), and senior Kevin Walker (Wilmington, DE/Salesianum) added assists for DeSales. Walker won 9-of-20 face-offs and had five ground balls.
DeSales returns to action on Wednesday, April 14th when they travel to Messiah College for a very important MAC Conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
